Jon's find

A bit of clearing up in the garden revealed a chicken on top of 13 eggs! They've all been laying in the same spot between a water butt and a rusty old lawn roller.

A good omen?

In the middle of all the baby preparations we had a pang of guilt about the boys' room and took a detour to freshen it up. The old curtains were not appreciated in their room but definitely deserve a place somewhere else.

We noticed some of the chickens' combs looking redder today (a sign that they're ready to lay) and went to check..... our first, very small, egg! Hopefully it's an omen.

Where babies and chickens collide

Apart from the eggs, one of the things I'm most looking forward to with the chickens is introducing them to the baby and watching their relationship grow. Hopefully it'll become a nice part of our routine; feeding, caring for and talking about them. This article talks more about the way in which looking after chickens can develop as your toddler does.
