Away

Solar powered lamps from IKEA (A temporary solution to a bedroom for two boys, with one socket - next to the door.)

They're on school journey. It is very quiet around here.

Ears On

These are already too small for N (I started them about 6 months ago). Good job I've got an unsuspecting baby nephew arriving in the autumn.

We're camping this summer. These photos are from 2 years ago (Welsh Borders) when it rained almost constantly, the sun breaking through occasionally (but spectacularly). This time we're taking a campervan, route unplanned - should be fun! As the good old Dr Seuss would say:

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You're on your own, and you know what you know.
And you are the one who'll decide where you go.
Oh the places you'll go.

Sunday Morning

On a walk this morning we found this notebook in a box by the side of the path. (Had been dumped as part of a house clearance by the look of it). It took us a while to work out what the tables were recording, but we think it must have belonged to someone who repaired machines in the Boot and Shoe factories locally. Both my Grandparents worked in factories not far from where we now live, so it was strange to get this insight into his and their working lives, and the industry of the area, out on a windy, sunny morning across the fields. (And how just an hour or so earlier I was playing 'Wind the bobbin up' as N lay on the bed after a nappy change). Apart from being an accounting document it was obvious that the notebook had been used for personal notes, lists and, importantly, a diagram of the dial settings for the (new) television. It also noted the Queen's departure for Australia and a reminder to buy 6 oz of tobacco and some Polo mints.

Oh and the dog got tired.
